HORSE RUNS AWAY WITH LAD AT NIGHT
TRAVELS EIGHT MILES BEFORE HE IS CAPTURED.
The Boy None the Worse for Trip. Asleep When He Was Found.
Mrs. Wm. Golley of Gagetown was called to Cass City early yesterday
morning by the illness of her daughter, Mrs. James Guliek. She was accompanied
by her son, a lad of three or four years of age, and by Cyrus Trumbull, whose horse and buggy
were used in making the trip. They arrived here about three o'clock, and Mrs. Golley and Mr. Trumbull
had alighted from the rig and were about to help the lad out, when the
horse gave a quick jump and started down the street with the boy seated
in the buggy box.
Assistance was secured from Isaac Agar and Frank Bliss, who started
in the former's auto to search the country. They first went north but
when they had travelled a few miles, they met Mr. Golley, who had been
summoned from Gagetown by telephone, and they were forced to conclude
that the horse had not started towards home as they at first believed
he would naturally do.
In the meantime Mr. Trumbull had started east on foot, tracks in the
mud indicating that the horse had followed that direction. After walking
a few miles he secured a rig from one of the farmers and kept
on the trail. Messrs. Agar and Bliss tried the east road after their unsuccessful
trip north, and they had gone beyond Wickware, seven miles
from Cass City, when they learned that the horse and buggy had been
found, north of Wickware, by Mr. Trumbull with the boy unharmed and
asleep in the rig.

Notes
- On November 24, 1989, David Trumbull sat down with Kenneth Schenk, the second husband of
Maybell Elston,
daughter of Emma Trumble Elston and put in writing some family stories passed down
about Andrew Trumble and his family.
- Cyrus Trumble was always serious. His nickname was Philo. He was a horse doctor; he could not read and,
therefore, tasted the medicines to tell what was what. He bought his drugs at Wood's Drugs in Cass City, Mich.
- Kenneth Schenk also related this story of Cyrus Trumble and how
he Cured Jim Purdy's Cattle of TB
- Jim Mosher, grandson of Harriet Trumble and James Mosher, in a telephone interview with David Trumbull
on August 6, 1983, related that Vet Trumble and Cyrus Trumble
are buried side-by-side at Gagetown Cemetery. Mr. Wallrod dug graves and Jim Mosher
helped dig Vet Trumble's grave.
